hi mother, i tried to write uhundred lettersit’s me,
the daughter,
the daughter of the daughter of the daughter
a
nd between us, there’s a line,
the impossibilities of the spoken

and this is our atemporal dialogue
and this is a dialogue with words saying nothing
because i don’t know what to say, what to tell you
should i say: i love you?

SH! Silent Heritage was presented on November 5th in Norway at Figurteatret. It can therefore be performed both in Spanish and English. A 40 minute documentary performance. The piece investigates intrafamiliar silence within the feminine triangle of mother–grandmother–daughter, all daughters of daughters. It places on the table the question: who takes care of whom? Precisely because language is not capable of filling all the gaps of affection. Many stories are lost along the way, and others are kept as secrets in words not spoken, written, or yet to be written. The stage interacts with two main archival elements: my grandmother’s rural memories and my mother’s hidden pregnancy diary. It unfolds through three chapters: Mother–Grandmother_Daughter. In a way, autotextuality gives voice to those who have been narrated by others; and it is not a predictable way of telling stories. A language that relates to the intimate and the close-to-home context. It acts as a bridge between a specific cultural silence and the audience’s experience, evoking forms of tacit communication that often permeate family dynamics and, more deeply, the social and cultural conception of femininity in relation to silence.
